Art. 1

The International Dance Competition is subdivided in the following sections: classical, modern and choreographic composition.

Requirements:
- Classical (see art.6): 11 to 14 years of age for the "students" division, 15 to 18 years of age for the "Junior" division, 19 to 24 years of age for the " Senior" division.
The groups (classical) no minimum age
- Modern (see.art.7) : 13 to 18 years of age for the "Junior" division, 19 to 25 years of age for the "Senior" division.
The groups (modern, contemporary and hip hop) no minimum age
Choreographic composition (see.art.8): no minimum age.

The minimum and maximum age will have to be completed within April 28, 2010
 

Art. 2

The application form must be completed in every part and submitted to:

Medical certificate of good health;
Curriculum vitae;
Telephone number or email address for communications;
One document size photo;
For soloists and pas de deux (classical and modern sections) entrance fee receipt of € 100.00 (one hundred) for every candidate, non refundable
For the soloists candidates who enrol in two sections (classic and modern), the cost is € 180,00 (one hundred eighty) for every candidate, non refundable
For the groups, (sections: modern and choreographic composition) entrance fee receipt of € 140.00 (one hundred-forty) per groups of three elements and a additional € 35.00 (thirty five) for each additional candidate in the group, non refundable

Art. 3

The application deadline is April 16, 2010 without any possibility of delay.
Incomplete, or later postmarked applications will not be considered (the actual shipment date will be testified by the postmark).
 

Art. 4

The Competition takes place in Teatro Tenda Via M. Spadola - Ragusa according to the following schedule:

Wednesday:

  • 11:30 – Admission to the Competition and reception service;
  • 12:30 - Timetable for stage rehearsals and selections (the order of appearance on stage will be determined by drawing numbers and by section);
  • 13:30 - M° Stoyanov, Lesson of classical technique;
  • 15:00 - Beginning stage rehearsal according to the numerical order (timing: soloists students 5 minutes, soloist Junior and Senior 10 minutes, pas de deux and groups 15 minutes);

Thursday:

  • 14:00 – M° Stoyanov, Lesson of classical technique;
  • 15:30 – First eliminatory phase;

Friday:

  • 09:30 – 11:00 - Classical technique Training course (see attached “master class application form”);
  • 11:15 – 12:45- Contemporary dance Training course (see attached “master class application form”);
  • 13:00 - Beginning stage rehearsal according to the numerical order for 2nd variation
  • 15:00 – 15:45 - M° Stoyanov, Stretching (applicants in course of selection only);
  • 16:00 – Second eliminatory phase;

Saturday:

  • 09:30 – 11:00 - Classical technique Training course (see attached “master class application form”);
  • 11:15 – 12:45- Contemporary dance Training course (see attached “master class application form”);
  • 15:00 – 15:45 – M° Stoyanov , Stretching (applicants in course of selection only);
  • 16:00 - Selections; Finals

Sunday:

  • 11:00 – 12:30 - Training course of classical technique (see attached “master class application form”);
  • 13:00 – 14:30 - Contemporary Dance Training course (see attached “master class application form”);
  • 15:00 – rehearsals for the gala ceremony
  • 19:30 – 20:15 – M° Stoyanov, Stretching lessons for the participants to the "Gala"
  • 21:00 – Closing Gala Ceremony

The timetables and the every day schedule can undergo a change by the Organization Responsible in order to optimize the development of the Competition.
All the candidates must arrive at least an hour before the beginning of the several eliminatory rounds.
All the candidates will furnish there own ballet costumes which they will be required to wear in the course of the eliminatory tests, semi-final and final.


Selection Committee (Jury)

Art. 5

The Selection Committee will be composed of:

In case of delay, as act of God, of one of the members of the Jury, the function of the Selection Committee will be carried out regularly with the present members.

Rehearsals will be arranged as follows:

1° Eliminatory Phase
 

Art. 6

All the candidates of the classical section have to perform:

A) A variation if it is a single candidate or pas de deux, with a non competing partner who will not be judged from the Jury.
B) Pas de deux with variations and coda if it is a couple of candidates.
Competitors can perform variations possibly selected among the classical ballets
listed below or, in any case, belonging to the traditional repertoire

Apollon Musagete - Tchaikovsky pas de deux - Coppelia - Don Chisciotte - Esmeralda - Fiamme di Parigi - Giselle - Gran pas classique - Le Corsaire - Swan lake - Flower Festival in Genzano - La Bayadera - Napoli - The Sleeping Beauty - La Fille Mal Gardée - La Silfide - Le Silfidi - The Nutcracker - Notre Dame de Paris - Paquita - Raymonda - Sylvia - Diana and Akteon - Suite in Bianco - Romeo & Juliet - Carmen - Cinderella.

For candidates of the classical section, 11 to 14 years of age only (student), it is suggested to perform a piece according to their abilities (variation, no more than 3 minutes).
 

Art. 7

A candidate for the modern section (free variation) will have to perform a piece of a maximum of 4 minutes total stage time. The couples have to perform a piece of no more than 5 minutes total stage time. The groups have to perform a piece of no more than 7 minutes total stage time. In the case, such durations are not respected could be the cause of the disqualification from the competition.

The modern section comprises a wide thematic space in order to express the perception of our age. Such expression denies partially or totally the classical dance system , leaving space to develop new language with, New classic, Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Musical , Folk, Tip-Tap and Funky movement.
 

Art. 8

The candidates for the choreographic section should create inedited choreographies for a minimum of 3 elements and would be better if not presented in other sections.
The time limits of the choreographies will not exceed 7 minutes. There is no age limit for Choreographer candidates (male or female) and open to any technique.

2° Eliminatory Phase

To pass to the second level the candidate must obtain a minimum vote of 16 ( based on a 1 to 30 valuation).

The candidates of the classical section have to perform different pieces than the ones performed during the first Eliminatory Phase, and choose from the ballets listed above (see Art. 6).
The candidates for the modern and contemporary section (Art.7) may perform the same piece of the 1° Eliminatory Phase or perform a different one of the same time limit according to the allowed "free" styles.

Final

To pass to the finals the candidate must obtain a minimum vote of 18 (based on a 1 to 30 valuation).

The final sum of points for the candidates will be determined by the sum of votes earned in the two phases eliminatory of the competition and the final.
The decisions of the judges are final and cannot be appealed.
 

Art. 9

Competitors must furnish their own music material, through one track original CDs. Recordings must be marked with the competitors name, age and title of the piece. Only performance quality recordings will be accepted by the Jury who reserves the right to reject the recording and therefore the disqualification from the Competition.

The awards will be divided as such:

2° classified - Plaque + dancing clothes
3° classified - Plaque + dancing clothes

Junior (15-18 years of age)
1° classified - 800.00 €
2° classified - 400.00 €
3° classified – Entrance fee and free Stage for edition “Sicilia Barocca 2011”

Senior (19-25 years of age)
1° classified - 900.00 €
2° classified - 450.00 €
3° classified – 200.00 €

Groups
1° classified 700.00 €
2° classified 400.00 €

MODERN SECTION
Juniors (13-18 years of age)
1° classified - 800.00 €
2° classified - 400.00 €
3° classified - Entrance fee and free Stage for edition “Sicilia Barocca 2011”

Seniors (19-25 years of age)
1° classified - 900.00 €
2° classified - 450.00 €
3° classified – 200.00 €

Groups
1° classified 700.00 €

CHOREOGRAPHIC COMPOSITION SECTION

SPECIAL PRIZES
Bonus of 200 € for the first ones classified in the classical section (art.6), juniores and seniores, that are introduced in Pas de deux.

Special prize of the Jury

The jury may decide to award non monetary prizes such as scholarships or special prizes to merit talents even if they are not proclaimed winners of the competition.

The Jury reserves the right not to assign all the prizes
Prize monies are subject to Italian taxes.
Tie awards will divide prize monies.
 

Art. 11

All the winners will participate in the closing ‘Galà’ which will be held Sunday May 2, 2010 9. p.m.
The ticket for the evening gala will be 5 euros.
During the evening of gala, it will come carried out a television resumption of the entire show that will be transmitted via satellite.
 

Art .12

The candidate who is accepted to the Competition enables the organization (unless he/she does not dissent in a written form) to freely use their own image, personal data and for promotional, statistical and informative purposes, according to the Public Law n. 675 of 1996, and accept the present statute.
The Forum of Modica is competent for whatever controversy.

 

Specific notes

Art. 14

It is forbidden to use make-up or body creams, liquid or powdered substances
which could damage the carpet and therefore cause problems to the competitors.

All through the competition the sole and official photographer and cameraman
accredited by the Organising Committee will be Mr. Amedeo Monopoli.

 

Stages

Art. 15

There will be held within the International Dance Competition a "Masters Class".
This initiative is independent of the competition.
